Playlist Journaling + My ESSENTIAL Fall Playlist

Hey there everyone and happy Sunday! It’s been far too long since I’ve sat down to write a blog post. ‘Tis the season of homework, homework, and more homework, I suppose! If you’ve checked out my latest post with my FALL BUCKET LIST then you may be awaiting a recipe for those pumpkin shaped pancakes I promised. . . c’mon, Katherine, where’s the recipe? It’s already October 11th! You better believe I made the pancakes as soon as I got to the grocery store and grabbed some pumpkin.

Unfortunately, I learned the hard way not to work on a food blog post when you’re hungry. Eager to enjoy my creation I sort of (okay, okay, maybe totally) forgot to measure out what I was using and how long I cooked the pancakes for. I also didn’t consider that the lighting in my kitchen in the early morning was not ideal for food photography. Allow me to let y’all in on a little secret~ food blogging is hard!!

Ever since my failed attempt to make a pumpkin pancake blog post, I have really grown to appreciate all those pretty, organized, and detailed recipe posts on the internet. Those take a lot of skill. I definitely have to re-try my hand at creating a recipe post, but maybe at a time when I’m not just waiting to eat the final product, HAHAHA! In case you were wondering though, the pancakes were delicious. I’ll show you some poorly lit and ill-structured photographs of them. Not wanting to renege on my promise completely, I found a similar pancake recipe on Pinterest that I think you all might enjoy.

With our pumpkin pancake problems behind us, I want to share a thought or two on a trend which I’m calling PLAYLIST JOURNALING that I think everyone should know about and take part in! Over the past few months, I have noticed that my friends and I have been putting A LOT of effort into our music playlists (on Spotify and Apple Music). Quarantine has certainly allotted extra time for listening to music and exploring new sounds. Spotify is easily the most-used app on my phone and laptop. I almost always have music or a podcast playing whether I’m actively listening to songs or playing them as background noise for light homework, cooking, or cleaning! Can anyone else relate?? Music platforms make it extremely easy to discover new music while keeping all your favorites in neat playlists. Playlist Journaling is using playlists to document your moods or time periods in your life. Much like you would write down your daily thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a journal to look back on later, so too can you create playlists for different moods, seasons, or experiences of your life. Recently, I have been creating monthly playlists named with the current month and the year (sometimes playing around with creative abbreviations and emojis too). It is almost like creating a little time capsule that you can open up (listen to) later on and see how your emotions and interests have changed over time! I can listen to my Spring 2019 playlist and be transported back to senior year festivities or my 2020march playlist and relive all the initial uncertainty that came with the Coronavirus pandemic and campus closures. I can only hope my playlist journaling will be extremely helpful later on down the road when I try to explain the “good old days” of Ed Sheeran, Khalid, Quinn XCII, and Post Malone to the youths of the future. 🎶

If you don’t already, I highly suggest organizing your favorite songs into playlists that convey what you’re into and how you’re feeling at the moment. They’re very useful keepsakes.

Fall is in full swing and the iconic sweatshirt-season beckons for a rockin’ playlist. This might seem strange to consider but what does fall “sound” like to you? Maybe some soothing sounds for cozy days or a few energetic beats to match the crisp air and excitement outside? When I think of fall sounds, I definitely think of bold voices and prominent drum beats. My Fall Playlist has all the songs that I have been loving recently. While the full playlist is more extensive, here are 26 of my essential feel-good FALL SONGS. Hopefully these tunes will make your pumpkin carving and cider drinking all the more festive!
